There are long threads on twitter of doctors and nurses with literal decades of experience in pediatrics, trauma care, and emergency assistance talking about how they’ve tried volunteering their services at any of the centers where immigrant children are being held. Only they’re all being turned away and told DHS would prefer to work with volunteers who are ‘trained specifically for dealing with these situations’. One doctor with sixteen years of experience as a trauma doctor was told she was ‘overqualified.’

No. They’re turning away qualified medical practitioners looking to volunteer for the sake of the children, because said medical practitioners are mandated by law to report any child abuse they witness. The only doctors and nurses they want in those places are ones they can count on not saying anything about what goes on in there.

The fact that these doctors and nurses are trying to volunteer because they WANT to help these kids is literally what’s disqualifying them in the eyes of the evil pieces of shit who are running these places.

I live in a state where you “have to” report anyone you suspect of being undocumented (that wonderful hellhole of Arizona). Now in practice this law has fallen far short, thank goodness. But if you live in such a place and they start enforcing it, here is how you get around it:

Assume everyone who doesn’t speak English is visiting.

Never ask about their job, because if they tell you they work here then you know they’re not visiting. You see them a lot for several weeks or months? Hm. Someone in the family must be ill. That’s terribly tough. They always dress in old, ratty laborers’ clothes? I feel you, my dude, I can’t afford new clothes either, and my dad has the fashion sense of an aardvark, so sometimes it’s not even about “affording” them. They say they’ve been here for years? You must have misunderstood. Spanish isn’t your first language, after all. First and last name? It never came up, or you don’t recall–you meet a lot of people.

And then, if you’re asked: no, you haven’t seen anyone residing illegally in the United States. Just people visiting.

There’s a new paper out that’s making some fantastic waves: Dissolving the Fermi Paradox. In it, the authors apply some probabilistic analysis to other estimates for the likelihoods of the parameters in the Drake equation, and come up with a value for the probability that we’re alone in the Universe. There’s just one problem: the input parameters are total garbage, and so the output parameters are garbage, too.

We have no idea whether humans are alone in the Universe. Embrace the possibilities, but don’t you dare pretend your so-called probabilities mean anything. They don’t.

But vets and keepers need to check under those flippers to make sure that they’re healthy and that they don’t have any restrictions on their motion or cuts on their skin. Why do they ask animals to jump? Again, to make sure that they’re healthy, and also because its fun and animals LOVE to move around and jump and have fun, its mentally stimulating.

Hello, Mexican here. They are fucking modern day concentration camps. Children, even infants, are being ripped from their homes, forced into overcrowded abandoned Walmart’s, with only 2 hours a day of outside time. This is no way for children to live. There is a mural on the wall of Trump with the quote, “Sometimes by losing the battle you find a way to win the war.” Do you know what people call shit like that? Propaganda. You can fuck all the way off. I cannot fucking believe you chose to fucking nitpick how this humanitarian problem is discussed because you’re uncomfortable with the horrors happening right before our eyes and would rather call it “problematic.” I can’t fucking stand gringos for bullshit like this.

Hi, Jew here! They are concentration camps and any Jew worth their history will tell you that. The Trump murals, the “we’re just going to take your baby for a bath”, the photos of confiscated rosary beads, the older children taking care of younger children they have no relation to because there are no parents around.

We see this shit and it sends chills up our spines because that was the kind of shit gentiles ignored because it wasn’t “that bad”. It wasn’t “that bad” when they were just confiscating our wedding rings and throwing them into a pile because we were “prisoners”, because it wasn’t “that bad” when they were separating children from their mothers to put them into a separate barracks, because it wasn’t “that bad” when little kids were having to flee through Kindertransport without their parents.

I don’t support illegal immigrants, and imo, calling them concentration camps is excessive, but this… this is just fucked up.

The people in these camps aren’t illegal immigrants. They’re people seeking political asylum/refuge. They come here because in their home countries they were persecuted, under threat of being killed, or unable to support themselves and their families. And they are trying to enter America legally. Now, what’s supposed to happen is they are held in a facility (One which is supposed to provide at least a basically comfortable and adequate living space) for a short time until they can have a hearing to decide if asylum will be granted to them. However, under Trump the wait for that hearing has ballooned to over 2 years. This has lead to overcrowding. And Trump’s administration began taking the children from these families under the guise that the families can’t take care of their kids. This is done to pressure asylum seekers into leaving by saying they can only get their children back if they agree to leave. Otherwise the kids are kept for as long as legally allowed (You can only detain a child without their parents for a certain time period), and then sent to white foster parents, where many of them have simply disappeared. The camps the children are kept at are new and much more prison like than the previous facilities. The overcrowding has also worsened conditions for the adults. Now, under Trump’s new executive order, he’s just made it possible to hold them indefinitely by keeping the kids with their parents.

Again, these are people who are trying to enter the country LEGALLY.

And consider why illegal immigrants try to enter America illegally. They aren’t criminals. They’re people who have been backed into a corner. They’re desperate. And trying to sneak across the border is a last resort. Besides, now you see what happens when they try to enter legally?

Also, a Jewish person just explained why calling the camps concentration camps is entirely appropriate, so maaaaaybe that’s not someone you should argue that point with?
